Barbara Broccoli, known for producing the 007 James Bond films, has announced that there is indeed a possibility for a female or black actor to land the the role of Bond once Daniel Craig leaves the scene.
Broccoli was discussing the franchise with Daily Mail when she was asked by viewers if we “could expect to see a female Bond or a black 007” after Craig. Her response was quite interesting.
“These films tend to reflect the times so we always try to push the envelope a little bit,” she answered. “Anything is possible. Right now it’s Daniel Craig, and I’m very happy with Daniel Craig, but who knows what the future will bring?”
It was confirmed last year that Craig would continue to play Bond for the next film in the franchise, so it may be awhile before we can expect a new lead. Although that hasn’t stopped fans from suggesting their own choices for a new Bond – which have included Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron and Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley. There’s certainly a lot of variety there to pick from!
It’s interesting to know that the producers are trying to change things up a bit for the next James Bond movie, though I’m sure a lot of people will have strong opinions on this one, as they almost always do. There always seems to be backlash on something.
Until then, we’ll have the 25th James Bond film to look forward to. Daniel Craig will star, while a director has yet to be named. The film has a November 8, 2019 release date.
How would you feel about such a drastic change being made to the 007 character? Would you be interested in seeing any of these new actors take the role? Be sure to let us know all of your thoughts in the comment section below!
