Batman is one of the most popular comic book characters of all time, if not the most popular. So it should come as no surprise that whoever plays him in a movie is going to be analyzed over and over by fans. Christian Bale is said to have the best overall Batman movies to date, while Ben Affleck is said to be the most comic accurate Batman to date.
While speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Bale revealed that he hasn’t yet seen Affleck’s Batman:
“I have not [seen Ben Afflecks Batman]. Yes Im interested [in seeing it], my son seemed like he was really interested, but then I realized he just wanted to see the trailer and that was itI tend to go see films that [my kids] want to see. I have to confess Im not a huge superhero film fan. People seem surprised at that, I dont know why. Ive not seen any of the Avengers films or any of those films at all. I hear theyre very good, but Im quite happy just hearing theyre very good.”
It’s actually not the first time Bale has revealed he doesn’t like superhero movies, as he did once already this past April:
“…I’m not interested in doing that. Ive never seen Im trying to think if thats correct, I think Im actually correct, I cant remember a single superhero film that Ive ever watched. Apart from the ones I made and like, the Christopher Reeve Superman films.
As far as looking back on his role as Batman, you might be surprised to hear that Bale has mixed emotions about his performance:
Mixed emotions about it. Im always eternally grateful to [director] Chris [Nolan]. For instance,Rescue Dawn, Werner [Herzog] and I had been trying to put that together for a few years.American Psycho, Mary Harron and I had been trying to put that together for a few years. No one was interested. Why? Me. Suddenly everyone said, Yeah, alright. Well go with him. It did change everything. It was the first time I had done a film of that magnitude. That was a real learning curve for me. I wrestled with it for a long time. I still do on occasions. But Im just learning, hey, accept the good things.
It’s definitely interesting, and it’ll be even more interesting to hear what Bale has to say about Affleck’s portrayal of the iconic DC Comics character. We’re sure he’ll have nothing but positive things to say about it, though.
