Alien fans have been in a frenzy ever since it was announced that Fox likely gave up on Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant sequel. Now that there seems to be interest in where the franchise could go next, director Neill Blomkamp has shared some more artwork from his unmade Alien 5 concept.

The film was thought up by Blomkamp as a replacement for Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection. It would’ve taken place after Aliens and followed a more traditional sequel route with Ripley, Hicks, and even Newt returning to fight the Xenomorph menace.
But Ridley Scott saw to it that the film wouldn’t happen, so that way he could focus on his new Alien prequel series branching off from Prometheus. But now that fans were disappointed with both that and Alien: Covenant, the franchise is slowly fading into darkness.
As such, Blomkamp revealed some new images which seem to go back to basics. We get a familiar-looking Xenomorph making its way to some poor victim, and another image with a Weyland-Yutani spacecraft.
Whether or not Blomkamp is the right man to bring Ripley and the Xenomorphs back is another question. But if he isn’t, then who is? Ridley Scott who directed the original 1979 Alien seems intent on leaving it in the past, preferring instead to focus on androids and incoherent prequels.
And with the Disney FOX buyout, there’s no telling if there even will be room for an Alien sequel. At least not anytime soon. But we do live in an age of reboots, so who knows? His concept would at least be closer to the Alien movies that fans are expecting to see.
