At a time when comic book movies had become frowned upon, a little movie called Blade had blown away everyone’s expectations. It took a dated and obscure vampire hunting character and totally revamped him for the 1990s – something that took well with audiences and the resulting action and violence was well-received.
Because Blade was such a hit, it was followed up by two sequels and even a spin-off television series with an all-new cast. The franchise has since gone silent, however, with the rights now back in Marvel’s hands. As such fans have been curious whether or not they’d ever revive the character.
And with this question comes another – should Wesley Snipes reprise his role as Blade, or should someone new take the mantle? Well, Snipes has finally taken to Twitter to answer the question for his fans who’ve been asking all these years.

It makes sense, as Snipes has been vocal about returning to Blade in the past. He’s even reportedly had conversations with Marvel Studios about starring in a fourth Blade film, something even Kevin Feige has shown interest in in the past, saying:
“We think it would be cool. Someday. My tenure at Marvel started 17 years ago, and there were two things that sort of launched the modern era. One was X-Men, which was the first thing that people said, “Oh, there’s life here.” But a few years before that, there was Blade. A character nobody had heard of at all, had only appeared in a few issues of Tomb of Dracula or something, turned into a big franchise. That was always a great lesson for me, where you go, “It doesn’t matter how well known the character is, it matters how cool the movie is.” Which, many years later, would be the reason we do Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange. I think Blade is a legacy character now, and I think it would be fun to do something with him one day.”
Of course, Marvel has yet to include a pre-established film character and actor in their Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the character was rumored for Agents of SHIELD earlier this week, but hey – there’s always a first time for everything! And if Wesley Snipes got to return as Blade, well, that means the MCU really started in 1998!
