There were a ton of popular movie trailers in 2017, probably due to the fact that there were a ton of popular movies. Event movies like Justice League, Avengers: Infinity War and even the IT Movie had all kinds of anticipation, so it should come as no surprise that the trailers were viewed quite a few times.
What is surprising, though, is that the most popular trailer this year is Avengers: Infinity War – even though it was released just last month!
The Avengers: Infinity War trailer has been viewed a staggering 88 million times on YouTube, trumping the trailer for Thor: Ragnarok, which had 46 million, and the IT trailer, which had 45 million.
The Justice League trailer wasn’t far behind IT, with 42 million views.
The Star Wars franchise gets a lot of attention, however, the Avengers: Infinity War trailer even beat out the Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer; the teaser was seen 42 million times, and the full-length trailer was seen 39 million times. The numbers that are gathered are from official YouTube channels, not from third party channels.
This explains why Avengers: Infinity War has gotten so many views, 230 million of them in a 24-hour period, smashing records. It only reached 197 million views in the same amount of time. This might not seem like a lot compared to other videos that are posted on YouTube.
Those other videos, like music videos, have stricter ownership and only allow for a single concentrated traffic stream. Films usually have nine different kinds of promos in anticipation of release.
With Avengers: Infinity War next to release in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, all eyes are on them, especially after Thor: Ragnarok did so well.
