If you were wondering whether or not the actress for Rey, Daisy Ridley, would be participating in Lucasfilm’s newly announced Star Wars trilogy spin-off – you needn’t wonder any longer.
While talking with Rolling Stone about The Last Jedi, she revealed her intentions to not return as Rey past Episode IX.
“No,” she told the publication, explaining, “For me, I didn’t really know what I was signing on to. I hadn’t read the script, but from what I could tell, it was really nice people involved, so I was just like, ‘Awesome.’ Now I think I am even luckier than I knew then, to be part of something that feels so like coming home now.”
When asked if she’d ever change her mind, she simply reiterated her desire to only do three films.
“No, no, no. I am really, really excited to do the third thing and round it out, because ultimately, what I was signing on to was three films. So in my head, it’s three films. I think it will feel like the right time to round it out.”
It makes sense that she wouldn’t want to return for any future films. After all, this trilogy is being branded as the end of the Skywalker saga. There might not be any reason for her to come back after Episode IX. But seeing how iconic actors like Harrison Ford, Mark Hamil, and Carrie Fisher returned all these decades later – it’s smart to never say never. And when asked if she could return thirty years from now, she did seem somewhat open.
“Who knows? I honestly feel like the world may end in the next 30 years, so, if in 30 years we are not living underground in a series of interconnected cells … then sure. Maybe. But again, it’s like, who knows. Because the thing I thought was so amazing, was people really wanted it. And it was done by people who really love it.”
Rey develops her newly discovered abilities with the guidance of Luke Skywalker, who is unsettled by the strength of her powers. Meanwhile, the Resistance prepares to do battle with the First Order.
