For some time we have only had sly nuggets of information about Avengers: Infinity War. But it is with thanks to Vanity Fair that fans were finally given something more concrete. The actors have donned their full costumes for the cover shoot and- while we knew of some changes thanks to concept art – there were still a few surprises for fans.
One of the snaps has revealed a much different look for Thor – complete with short hair and… both eyeballs? We can’t be sure whether or not this change is permanent. Like many of its films, Marvel can handle details such as this in post-production. Eyeball aside, there is more to look at with Thor’s new look.
Apart from a red cape, his new uniform is completely black. The style is similar to that of the first Thor film, however rather than silver his armor is black. Check out the new look below:
While this reveals no major secrets for Infinity War, could it perhaps mean a darker look is needed for a darker film? This could perhaps be looking too deep into things but its worth recognizing that stakes are high and the future of the Avengers is not all that bright.
For those of you who have already seen Thor: Ragnarok, you know that the film paves the way for Infinity War, as producer Brad Winderbaum said himself:
“…I think that also in phase one, we established this cosmology that involved Asgard and Odin, and certain ideas of things that you just thought were eternal and could never change. And what this film does is it breaks them down in a very similar way [to how] Winter Soldier broke down ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’. Much like Winter Soldier took a lot of ideas off the playing field to make it harder on the Avengers in Ultron, [Ragnarok is] a similar thing. The whole cosmic world of the MCU was… you had Thanos, and you had Chitauri, and you have threats from above coming. But you also have Asgard, you also have these protective forces out there too… we make it much harder for those protections to come help our heroes as we enter [Avengers 3].”
We’ll see just how well this new look will translate on screen when Avengers: Infinity War is finally released in May 2018.
The film’s synopsis: As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.
