Though we haven’t seen what Tom Hardy’s Venom will look like in the upcoming movie, we have been given a few looks at what his interpretation of Eddie Brock will look like, courtesy of set photos and one set video.
Now, a video from Tom Hardy’s MMA trainer Nathan Jones has been posted, with the Jones saying:
“What the world is going to see is one of the darkest, most powerful supervillains that Marvel has ever created. It’s going to be carnage.”

Most notably, it’s interesting that Jones said Carnage, as that will be the film’s main villain. It’s been said that the movie will be following the Lethal Protector storyline, which is interesting because Venom is an anti-hero in it.
The character’s creator, Todd McFarlane, thinks that Hardy will do a good job:
“…I think Tom Hardy’s going to be as good as whatever Venom looks like. We all know Tom’s going to act. He’s going to do a good job. So now what’s Venom gonna’ look like? It’s an R-rated movie, how “R” are they going to go? To me, that’s the question. Are they going to go a “little bit R”? Venom’s a monster to me, and to me – are they going to make him a monster or are they going to make him a man? Are they going to humanize him? That’s what we gotta’ find out.”
Since the film isn’t set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’ll be interesting to see how they do the Lethal Protector storyline without Spider-Man, whom Kevin Feige said won’t be appearing (Tom Holland’s version, anyway) in the film. Those who are unfamiliar with the storyline, it goes something like this – per Wikipedia:
Before the story begins, Venom makes an agreement with Spider-Man that they will leave each other alone, on the condition that Venom commits no crimes. Venom then moves from New York City to San Francisco, and takes up with a group of Californian mole people. Shortly thereafter the father of one of Venom’s victims seeks him out with a group of super-powered mercenaries to take revenge.
Spider-Man, seeing misleading coverage of Venom on television, heads to San Francisco to confront him and instead winds up fighting alongside Venom against five new offspring of the Venom Symbiote: Scream, Phage, Riot, Lasher, and Agony.
Though Spider-Man isn’t expected to appear in the film, I’d at least expect some sort of reference to the character. It wouldn’t really make much sense without it.
Venom is scheduled for release on October 5th, 2018.
