The Hellraiser franchise is notable for being extremely graphic and violent, with the glorification of pain being a major theme throughout the films. It seems the upcoming Hellraiser: Judgment is no different, as director Gary J. Tunnicliffe has stated on the Movie Crypt podcast.
In fact, Tunnicliffe has revealed quite a few people walked off the set of the film just to get away from its gruesome imagery. And one actress nearly passed out from the extremity of the gore:
“We did two sequences where… one, the actress almost passed out… a scene that you especially, Adam… you are going to freak the f*ck out,” the director revealed to the podcast’s host. “I’ll tell you off air about it, and when I explain it to you, you’re going to be like, ‘Jesus Christ.’ Involving a small dog. No, the dog doesn’t get hurt. But it goes through some… trauma. And then we had three grips leave the set during a sequence when they said, ‘This is utterly screwed up.’”
The director continued to explain that he put his all into working on the film.
“I had the most fun on that I’ve ever had, and I’ve never worked so hard on a Hellraiser film, but we had a great time.”
Detectives Sean and David Carter are on the case to find a gruesome serial killer terrorizing the city. Joining forces with Detective Christine Egerton, they dig deeper into a spiraling maze of horror that may not be of this world.
There’s no release date of yet, only a few looks at the new Pinhead, as well as a few teasers here and there for the upcoming Horror film. When a release date is given, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
