It turns out that there was an Easter egg connection between The Goonies and Jurassic Park that took almost 25 years for anyone to discover. Steven Spielberg directed Jurassic Park eight years after he produced The Goonies which was based on a story idea of his own. Now a new theory has come around suggesting that Spielberg may have in fact placed a few Easter eggs from the 1985 hit The Goonies in his dinosaur extravaganza.
A user on Reddit by the name Shadewfb brought up the possibility, and the Internet has been freaking out about it ever since. The theory suggests that the character Dennis Nedry in Jurassic Park actually wears nearly-identical articles of clothing based on the outfits of the Goonies!
This includes Chunk’s Hawaiian shirt, Mouth’s grey jacket, and Mikey’s raincoat! As you can see in the picture, it’s just too good to be a coincidence:
Considering that Spielberg had involvement in both films, it makes perfect sense that this was intentional. It’s likely he’s been laughing about everyone’s inability to figure it out ever since.
If so, it makes one wonder what other possible Easter eggs might be hiding in the films. It definitely shows how fun of a filmmaker Spielberg can be, and how easy it is to rewatch the films he was involved in and discover something new each time. It’ll be interesting to see what Easter eggs are hidden in his next film, Ready Player One, as an interesting one for Stephen King’s Christine has already been uncovered.
How do you feel about this theory? Could Spielberg have cleverly placed Nedry’s outfits as references to The Goonies? Let us know in the comments section below!
