The executives at Disney must have really enjoyed Star Wars: The Last Jedi, as Lucasfilm just announced that a new Star Wars trilogy is coming from director Rian Johnson, in a move that will most definitely excite fans of the franchise.
President of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy had the following to say about the news:
Kennedy: We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi. He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”
“We had the time of our lives collaborating with Lucasfilm and Disney on The Last Jedi,” Johnson and Bergman said in a joint statement. “Star Wars is the greatest modern mythology and we feel very lucky to have contributed to it. We can’t wait to continue with this new series of films.”
The director took to Twitter to say:
Obviously I hope you like The Last Jedi. But man now I REALLY hope you like The Last Jedi.

The next film we will see is Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which has the following synopsis: Rey develops her newly discovered abilities with the guidance of Luke Skywalker, who is unsettled by the strength of her powers. Meanwhile, the Resistance prepares to do battle with the First Order.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters December 15th and if the most recent trailer is any indication, it’ll be great.
