This year’s IT movie was a massive critical and box office success and is potentially on its way to being the #1 grossing horror movie of all time at the Box Office.
At the moment, though, it’s worldwide Box Office total sits at a very interesting number – according to Box Office Mojo:
$666 Million.
It’s definitely an ironic number, though it’s not quite certain if Pennywise is into Satan or not. What is quite certain, though, is that the film is one of the biggest horror movies of all time, and already passed The Exorcist as the highest grossing R-Rated horror movie.
The sequel is already planned for release in September 2019, but that isn’t before we will be getting a Director’s Cut from Andy Muschietti, which will apparently include some pretty crazy stuff. Hopefully that “crazy stuff” includes the disturbing scene in which Pennywise the Clown eats a baby.
Bill Skarsgård himself spoke about how disturbing it was:
“There was a scene we shot that was a flashback from the 1600s, before Pennywise [was Pennywise]. The scene turned out really, really disturbing. And I’m not the clown. I look more like myself. It’s very disturbing, and sort of a backstory for what It is, or where Pennywise came from. That might be something worth exploring in the second one. The idea is the ‘It’ entity was dormant for thousands and thousands of years. The [flashback] scene hints on that.”
I’m not sure if that would have fit into the movie or not, but it definitely would have been interesting and disturbing to see. Perhaps it’ll be included on the upcoming director’s cut of the film.
IT is currently playing in theaters everywhere.
