A bunch of reboots are on the way, for the television and movies. The announcement that Morgan Creek Productions, which was created in 1988, is switching it up. They are now known as, Morgan Creek Entertainment Group. They’ve decided that the best course for them to take is to look at their huge library of work and reboot as much as they possibly can. A few titles or note are Young Guns, Major League, and Ace Ventura. President of MCEG David Robinson, founder James Robinson’s son, had this to say:
“Morgan Creek’s globally recognized brand and premium titles are an ideal fit for the extraordinary creative revolution taking place in the television and digital worlds today.”
Ace Ventura is one of the most notable of the mentioned titles, and David Robinson has stated they would welcome the idea of Jim Carrey reprising the role. He wouldn’t be the only person in the film creating laughs. They are more interested in making a “new movie in the spirit of the original” so that a “baton-handing” could allow a younger actor to keep the franchise alive for a while longer. The actor or actress could be a long lost child of the Pet Detective and would be forced to take on the same career. Even though this idea has been tried once before in 2007 with Ace Venture Jr., they would still like to make a show to go along with the movie. The failed show starred Josh Flitter as the Pet Detective’s son, whose mother is suspected of stealing a panda. The word “fail” doesn’t come close to how people felt about it:
“We wanted to do a mainstream theatrical production relaunch…Because it’s episodic in nature, about a pet detective, it also lends itself to a traditional single-camera series franchise.”
Before this idea, The Exorcist was being looked at, and it has since been accelerated. Young Guns is also looking at receiving a reboot for both film and television, though the original actors aren’t set to come back in any way.
James Robinson was able to secure the rights for a lot of films, and David Robinson is carrying on with the goal of bringing these classics to the modern generation. Deadline reports that graphic novels, video games, and other types of media will be involved to hopefully help MCEG profit as much as possible.
