We already knew that Captain Marvel was going to be an important film for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but now, it’s been revealed that the film will be an integral part of closing out Phase 3.
In a recent interview with IndieWire, Marvel’s Kevin Feige said:
“There are a lot of discussions, they all focus on the post-Phase Three, ‘Avengers’ 4 film, so nothing that we’ll get into publicly. We’re really focusing on ‘Captain Marvel’ and the work that Anna and Ryan are doing. It’s going to be a big part of heading towards this epic conclusion and epic finale of 22 movies over the course of 10 years. That is focus for the next six movies we have to finish and get out. Really, the focus now is on delivering ‘Captain Marvel’ and then bringing Captain Marvel’s story into the finale of everything we’ve started thus far.”
The last we heard about the film was that it was getting a new script back in August. Feige has previously said that it’ll be an origin story for Captain Marvel:
“[Black] Panther is not really an origin story, since we saw him already in Civil War. But his standalone certainly introduces you to 99% of his world that you never saw. And Captain Marvel is certainly an origin. It’s an origin story from the start.”
It’s also been revealed that The Skrulls will be in this film, something that will definitely be interesting.
Brie Larson has also stated she wants to work with Marvel and play Captain Marvel for the foreseeable future.
Captain Marvel is set to hit theaters on March 6th, 2019.
