Jared Leto was recently interviewed by Sirius XM, and asked him some questions about how he prepares for the roles he plays. He is most known for his portrayal of the Joker in Suicide Squad right now.
Suicide Squad made headlines for its divisiveness. Many people loved it, however, many people hated it. One surprising detail that came out after the film finished production was that Jared Leto gave out questionable gifts afterward. It was even reported that he gave out used condoms.
Of course, we all know that what’s reported isn’t always how things happened. Leto stated that there was a gift exchange between the cast; it wasn’t just him giving out dirty gifts. Also, the gifts were mutually Joker-themed, and no one was offended. He didn’t give out used condoms, either. This is what he said:
“It was anything but [offensive],” Jared Leto explained. “It was in good fun and light-hearted, and everything it should have been, but that is the world we live in.”
Jared Leto also said he took his job of playing the Joker seriously, and had a message for anyone how might think otherwise:
“Was I focused when doing all of these scenes? Of course. You’re stepping into big shoes. Look. You work the way you work. I work the way I work. You can kiss my ass if you don’t like it. I’m talking to the public. You know.”
He will be reprising his role as the Joker for Suicide Squad 2, Gotham City Sirens, and a film with just him and Harley Quinn. Take note, he will be taking those reprisals seriously, too.
