Though Hugh Jackman’s final time playing Wolverine in this year’s Logan wasn’t too long ago (at all), it appears that rebooting the character isn’t completely off the cards – according to 20th Century Fox chairman and CEO Stacey Snider.
When asked about that possibility, Snider had this to say to Variety:
“Anything’s possible.”
Back in June, Logan producer Hutch Parker had the following to say about that possibility:
“I think there’s a part for all of us that feels like Logan, as played by Hugh, is the definitive performance of that character. And I think we’re all a little hesitant at the idea of rebooting it in any way. So, for the moment we’re going to look at – there’s so much else explore in the [X-Men] Universe and to play with.”
He added:
“I think part of the fun of this universe is, as it’s expanded and it’s gotten more off-shoots, there are ways to potentially explore X-23 further. It’s something we’ve been talking about a little bit and have, frankly, going back a bit. So that’s a possibility.”
I personally think it’d be better to go with the X-23 spin-off as opposed to rebooting Wolverine so quickly. I understand that the character is very iconic, but it could be bad for whomever they get to replace Jackman, in terms of fan backlash. A good example of this would be Christian Bale and Ben Affleck. Affleck arguably was a better Batman on screen than Bale, but people still complain, saying no one can replace Bale.
Jackman played Wolverine for 17 years, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens.
