Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson is one of the most anticipated upcoming Marvel films and is expected to be unlike any of the other Marvel Cinematic Universe films to date.
Larson stated in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter that she loves working for Marvel:
“That’s one of the things that I’m so impressed with at Marvel – is that although they are this big company, at the same time their stories are really character driven and they care a lot about the journey of these characters and they understand that these films are a metaphor for the things that are very real in our lives. There’s been a lot of talk about it, they’re really open to the things I have to say about it, and it’s super collaborative. It feels like any other job at this point, which is really wonderful.”
Not much is known about the movie, but it will be an origin film according to Marvel’s Kevin Feige:
“Captain Marvel is certainly an origin. It’s an origin story from the start.”
Screenwriter Nicole Perlman said:
“I don’t think I’ve ever had a project where I’ve been more mindful about the impact that it could have and the importance of it. She’s such an incredibly kick-ass character and Kelly Sue DeConnick did a great run with her story arc recently. But here’s the thing, if you were just going to do a straight adaptation of the comics, her origin story is very similar to Green Lantern. And obviously, that’s not what we want to do. There’s a lot of reinvention that needs to happen. And also, she’s her own person and she’s a great character. We have to be aware of what’s happened in other Marvel film and makes sure that her particular storyline is unique and fun and also fits in within this world that’s going on at the same time. It’s a little bit of an interesting story gauntlet. It’s been good to have a partner. It’s been an incredible experience. If we can pull it off it could be an incredibly important but also really fun and kick-ass superhero film.”
Captain Marvel is set to be released on March 8th, 2019
