News has recently come out that the Joker origin movie will be directed by Todd Phillips, director of The Hangover. If you have worried about the fate of the film being handled by someone with comedic chops, you might be worrying for nothing.
Joe Rogan’s podcast was able to shed some light on the direction of the Joker origin film. Former MMA fighter Brendan Schaub was on the show and stated that he is friends with Todd Feldman who is working on the movie with Phillips and Martin Scorsese.
Schaub had this to say:
“My boy Todd Feldman put this together with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese. It’s dark. It’s like a dark Joker. As a kid, he had a permanent smile and everyone made fun of him. It’s like on the streets of Brooklyn. It’s super dark and real. I can’t wait.”
Since this film is not connected with the DC Extended Universe, it has no connection with the Joker being played by Jared Leto from Suicide Squad. This version of Joker will be played by someone different, and Leto will reprise his role for future DCEU films.
Some may be wondering how two Joker stories being released at the same time would work. The answer to that is they won’t ever really be crossing paths. Warner Bros. will be creating films outside of the DCEU for new stories involving the characters, and Superman Red Son is rumored to be one of them.
If you would like to hear what has been said about this film, it is mentioned around a minute in.
