The Captain Marvel film seems to be going through a few changes. The writers who were initially chosen to create the script for Captain Marvel have bowed out. Meg LeFauve, who wrote Pixar’s Inside Out, has decided to write and direct another project for Disney. It is an animated film called Gigantic, which was inspired by the British fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk. Nathan Greno, who co-directed Tangled, will also be co-directing this film with her.
Deadline reports that Geneva Robertson-Dworet has been tagged in to give the script a once-over and to make any polishing changes before it goes to the next phase. She just finished with the Tomb Raider film, which is now in post-production and is due for release in 2018. She is also working on the Suicide Squad spinoff Gotham City Sirens.
Nicole Perlman, the other writer on the Captain Marvel script, also confirmed via Twitter that she is no longer writing for the film. She had high regards for the new member of the project, saying:
“Happy to confirm my pal Geneva Robertson-Dworet will be the next writer to help guide #CaptainMarvel’s journey to the screen. She’s stellar!”
A few minutes later, she sent posted another tweet:
“I was lucky to have the years on CM that I did – I’m excited to see where Geneva (who’s got incredible character chops) takes our beloved CM.”
Finally, when asked if she would remain by Geneva’s side, she replied:
“No – Geneva is taking it from here and I’m sure she’ll knock it out of the park. It’s been a great 2.5 years though. ;-)”
She has not mentioned why she will not be seeing the project through.
Robertson-Dworet has made the Black List twice, and is repped by WME and Management 360.
The standalone superhero film will star Brie Larson.
Disney has slated the release of Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019. Directors Mississippi Grind and Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will take the wheel.
