Before you come at me for hating on The DCEU – I’ll put this out there:
I like The DCEU. I like Ben Affleck as Batman. Reporting on a story doesn’t make you a hater.
Regardless, someone out there will say I’m a hater.
Either way, Casey Affleck, brother of Ben Affleck, just said this about Affleck not being in the upcoming Batman film while speaking to WEEI Sports Radio (via /Film):
[Joking around] I thought he was an OK Batman. No, I thought he was great. He was great. He’s a hero, so he had something to channel and work with there. But he’s not going to do that movie, I don’t think. Sorry to say. [Radio hosts inform him that’s breaking news] Is that breaking news? Because I was just kind of making that up, I don’t know.
Well shit. It must be that I’m just making it up. I mean, it’s just my hatred of The DCEU.
Here’s the audio:
Sure, the actor says he’s just joking – but it was after he was told it was breaking news. And given the stress Ben is under – what kind of a joke would that be?
At this point, if Ben Affleck publicly says “I’m no longer Batman, I will not be playing him again.” – I will be accused of distorting his words for clickbait.
Earlier, we had reported on a site saying that Casey Affleck just told them his brother was no longer playing Batman – and we were called clickbait.
This seems a little odd, because Ben Affleck DID just have this to say last month:
“Trying to do that, and direct, would probably be too much. Something would be compromised. I think it came off, optically, to the broader world, like lack of interest or enthusiasm. When in fact I love this character. I think getting Matt Reeves to come in and do it is really, really exciting. Matt hasn’t really unveiled his full vision yet. He wanted to wait until Apes came out, and he was obviously consumed with that. So I’m looking forward to hearing what his story is.”
He continued:
“Warners has been working on it, making sure we’re getting it right. That’s the partnership you definitely want. With Wonder Woman, they really hit a home run. With [Justice League], I think we’ve found the tone, and found the flavor of it. I’d love to do it as long as they’ll have me. Eventually it’ll be somebody else, and I’m sure they’ll get somebody great. But while I’m doing it, I’m going to do the best job I can, and really appreciate how lucky I am.”
We’ll keep you updated. Be sure to remember – even if it’s facts we’re reporting, it’s still clickbait. Every single DCEU article is clickbait.
