It looks like Steven Spielberg’s Halo series is still in development. The show was first announced at the Xbox One unveiling in 2013. All that was revealed is that the series would be live-action, with Spielberg executive producing through his production company Amblin Entertainment. The show was planned by Microsoft to bring original television programming to Xbox owners.
Soon after it was revealed to fans that the show was picked up by Showtime, with Spielberg in talks to now direct the series as well as produce. The plan was stalled, however, after Microsoft closed down their Entertainment Studios division. Fans were left to assume the show was dead in its tracks. Now it looks like that is no longer true.
Microsoft and 343 Industries, the current rights holders of the Halo franchise, recently spoke with AR12Gaming about the series. They insist the show is still going to be picked up by Showtime with Spielberg producing.
Progress on the Halo Television Series continues. We want to ensure we’re doing this the right way together with a team of creative partners (Steven Spielberg and Showtime) that can help us build the best Halo series that fans expect and deserve. We have no further details to share at this time.
While the Halo franchise has had tough luck with adaptation attempts in the past, we can only hope Spielberg’s is the one that sticks.
