Kevin Feige has unveiled some very interesting news regarding the upcoming Captain Marvel adaptation at this year’s SDCC. This includes the villains of the film – which are revealed to be the Skrulls.
Aside from that surprising news, it turns out the film will be set in the 1990s, and feature an appearance from Samuel Jackson’s Nick Fury! Best of all, Fury is said to be appearing with both eyes. Could this prequel show how he got the eyepatch? Perhaps during a battle with the Skrulls?
There was also concept art for the Skrulls released, which showed that they were quite faithful to their comic book counterparts.
As written by the official Marvel website, the Skrull are:
“an extraterrestrial humanoid race who have created a vast interstellar empire, the oldest known empire still in existence, within the Andromeda Galaxy.” They are described as “reptilian but have certain mammalian characteristics such as hair and (in females) mammary glands. Newborn are hatched from eggs but are nursed by their mothers. Skrulls have lifespan of about 210 Earth-years. Although they are intellectually on par with Earth beings, the elimination of their Normal strain millions of years ago means they no longer have the capacity for benevolent mutation. Hence the Skrulls have existed at their current level of evolution for million of years.”
Check out the concept art for the film down below.
The film follows “an Air Force pilot who develops superhuman powers.”
Captain Marvel hits theaters March 8, 2019.
