Everyone remembers Stan Winston for his amazing special effects career. What some may not remember, however, is that he made his directorial debut with 1988’s Pumpkinhead – a cult horror classic.
The film even gave way for three direct-to-video sequels. This includes 1994’s Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings, 2006’s Pumpkinhead: Ashes to Ashes, and 2007’s Pumpkinhead: Blood Feud. And there’s currently even a reboot in the works from Saw producer Peter Block.
Aside from film sequels, the movie was popular enough to warrant a comic series in 1993. Two issues were released by Dark Horse and then cancelled before a third could be made.
Now it looks like Pumpkinhead is returning once more to the comic book world, this time thanks to Dynamite Entertainment. You can read their official press release below.
“Look – the 1980s was a renaissance for horror films, introducing thrill-seeking audiences to so many iconic murderers and monsters. Pumpkinhead is not only one of the most visually terrifying of the breed, but also one of the most tragic – it’s the very definition of a Revenge Tragedy. There’s a human story to it that affects us so deeply, so profoundly – how grief can unlock an insatiable darkness within even the noblest person. Dynamite’s proud to resurrect this demon of vengeance, to explore the murky depths of the human soul in all-original comics, coming soon!”
Although there’s no creative team yet attached, it certainly sounds like it’ll be an exciting treat for fans of the monster.
