Many fans were relieved when it was revealed that we weren’t going to be seeing poor Uncle Ben gunned down on our screens for the third time in fifteen years. I was, however, more concerned that I would fly into a fit of rage when I saw the lucky guy who was dating Aunt May.
Whilst we may not be seeing the late Ben Parker on our screens anytime soon, Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland has an idea on who it should be.
In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1, Holland revealed his number one choice to play role and it’s definitely an interesting choice. He told the interviewer:
‘I kinda want Tobey Maguire to play Uncle Ben, I think that’d be super funny, but I don’t think he’ll do it.’
It would definitely be a good choice for the character and a great way to honor the actor’s past as the wall-crawler who started it all on the big screen. With the actor being only eleven years younger than Aunt May actress, Marisa Tomei, it’s entirely plausible that they could work as a couple.
In the past, Ben Parker has been portrayed by Cliff Robertson and Martin Sheen and is often seen as Peter’s biggest motivations to fight crime so nobody else has to go through the pain he felt. However with the film series now taking place after his death, his role would likely be very minimal and reserved possibly to a flashback. The character was referenced in Spider-Man: Homecoming in a conversation between Peter and his friend Ned Leeds as to why he can’t let May know his secret.
Spidey will be swinging back onto our screens next year in Avengers: Infinity War but we could possibly see Maguire as Uncle Ben in the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel which is set to hit theatres July 5th, 2019.
What do you think? Would you like to see Maguire in the role? Who else would make a good Uncle Ben? Let us know below!
