We finally have an answer regarding Sony’s new Venom movie, and whether or not Spider-Man will appear alongside Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock.
It’s been confusing trying to comprehend how these spin-offs would use Spider-Man, if at all. For example, Venom’s original from the comics is almost entirely based around Spider-Man. It’s baffling to see how else such a character could work. And now, according to Kevin Feige, it looks like they’ll be disregarding Spider-Man completely.
While speaking to Variety, he had this to say:
“No,” he started when asked about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man making an appearance. “No, I think they’re focusing on making a great Venom movie, and I don’t know much about it, but I know they’re off to a good start with Tom Hardy.”
It looks like the explanation for Venom isn’t any less baffling for now, but we at least know Spider-Man will for sure be absent in the film. Only time will tell how Sony chooses to proceed and execute their Venom story.
Though, he and Tom Holland have said similar things very recently, so this isn’t exactly surprising.
Feige confirmed that Venom is not in the MCU – yet:
“For now, there is NO plan for Venom in the MCU. It’s a Sony Project.”
Holland said it’s never going to happen:
“Everyone’s asking this question, man. It’s never happening.”
Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters everywhere on July 7th.
