The most ungoogle-able action franchise of all time will continue. Despite only grossing $44 million stateside, XXX: The Return of Xander Cage took in $346 million on a worldwide scale (mostly from China). Even if this series is not nearly an economically viable as a certain other Vin Diesel franchise (The world has spent a combined $5.1 billion for those movies about driving fast and furiously), the powers that be in Hollywood have decided that it’s made enough money to justify a new installment.
Variety reports that LA based company H Collective has made a few deals with Hollywood producers Sid Ganis and Nancy Hult Ganis, Mark Johnson, Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum including the XXX sequel. Producer Joe Roth spoke optimistically about the deal stating:
“In today’s Hollywood, it requires strong partners to produce and finance such big-budget movies as the XXX series and The H Collective is a welcome and exciting new company that we look forward to working with.”
Producer Mark Johnson also noted his excitement saying:
“The H Collective has proposed a very clever and original model for making films of all sizes and shapes, and at all price levels. We are excited with the challenge of making diverse and arresting films for today’s global audience.”
Personally, I’m fairly indifferent. The XXX movies aren’t terrible. They serve their purpose as popcorn matinee movies. I’m not exactly counting the days until the next installment though.
So what do you think? Are you excited to see more XXX? Sound off below!
