In some very shocking news, three time Oscar winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis has decided to retire from acting.
The actor himself didn’t release a statement, his spokeswoman, Leslee Dart, had the following to say regarding the actor’s shocking announcement:
“Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject. ”
The method actor is often regarded as one of the (if not THE) best actors in Hollywood and made a name for himself with great performances in movies like My Left Foot, Gangs of New York and There Will Be Blood.
It also should be noted that he has taken long breaks from film in the past, but is also known to be very selective in picking the roles that he plays.
Who knows? Maybe if another huge role were to come along, the actor would be interested. This seems pretty final though.
His last film Phantom Thread is scheduled to hit theaters on December 25th and was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.
