Who thought a sponge could be so scary?
SpongeBob SquarePants premiered in 1999, and it’s been going strong ever since. With two theatrical films under the series’ belt as well, it’s become an iconic trademark for kids cartoons worldwide. And that makes it all the more disturbing when we see the character redesigned in a more frighteningly realistic fashion.
Artist Miguel Vasquez has revealed his project entitled “Best Friends Forever”. It’s a showcase of 3D models based around the two leads of SpongeBob SquarePants; the titular character and his friend Patrick Star.

The two models were rendered in Keyshot, and as you can see below, they’re nothing short of horrific. Vasquez has teased that he’s working on character Squidward Tentacles next, and that just might be the most frightening depiction of all.
