You know, I don’t know a single person who has told me that they actually liked Daddy’s Home. But somehow it made almost $250 million at the box office (likely due to some suit at Paramount selling their soul to Satan) so we’re getting a sequel this November. The trailer just dropped for this thing and you’ll have to excuse my squeeing. I just can’t contain my excitement.
Will Ferrell and Marky Mark Wahlberg are back as the father and stepfather to two kids. Their bitter rivalry from the first film has evolved in a buddy to buddy relationship in which they work together for the good of their kids.
However, things seem like they’re going to get out of hand as both men’s respective fathers decide to come over for Christmas (played by Mel Gibson and John Lithgow of all people). I’m sure we’ll get a lot of the same slapstick, bad improv, and forced sentimentality the we got in the “beloved” original. Yay for us!
If you haven’t picked up on it yet, I’m not especially looking forward to this one. Comedy sequels only work once in a blue moon and Daddy’s Home 2 looks like an extension of the same tired jokes of the mediocre original film with the laziest level cranked up to eleven. If I do end up seeing this, it would be because of Mel Gibson’s involvement. I rarely get to see the dude anymore and I miss him.
So, will you see Daddy’s Home? Sound off below!
