We’ve been given our first look at the new Blob remake’s sales art thanks to Arclight Films, and it’s rather derivative of another film franchise.
The remake has been in the works for a few years now, and names like Samuel Jackson and Halle Berry have both been attached to star. Meanwhile director Simon West is intended to helm the picture.
As you can see from the poster below, it looks rather familiar to the artwork from Alien. It features the same type of green light emitting from a crack like the cracked egg on the iconic Alien poster. And the font even looks rather dated. It’s reminiscent of 90s films like Phantoms or Mimic.
Here’s the Alien poster for reference:
It’s unfortunate as well that the poster chose to use green colors rather than the iconic pink colors associated with the first three Blob films. But as it is sales art, we should expect the whole design to change for the finished project. At least, let’s hope so.
West was quoted before on his goals for the remake, saying that:
“With modern CGI we can now fully realize the potential of The Blob. The world I create will be totally believable, immersive and emotionally satisfying. It’s a thrill to introduce an enduring icon to a wider audience and a whole new era of fans.”
It’s definitely unnerving hearing about CGI when The Blob and its first 1988 remake were so critically acclaimed for their use of practical effects. Alongside the unimaginative sales art, this might be a remake worth worrying over.
