Kevin Feige, producer and President at Marvel Studios, has promised that Thor: Ragnarok will be a “game changer” for Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, much like Captain America: Winter Soldier was for Phase 2. As we saw in the official trailer for Ragnarok, Thor is left on Sakaar to his own devices as his trusty hammer, Mjolnir, has been destroyed by Hela, the Asgardian goddess of death.
Whatever game changing events Feige talked about must not include the permanent destruction of the hammer as we now know we’ll see Mjolnir once again, thanks to a behind-the-scenes photo of Avengers: Infinity War posted to the Instagram page of the film’s directors, Joe and Anthony Russo.
The post is seemingly taken on location at Durham Central where Chris Hemsworth (Thor) is said to be shooting his scenes with Rocket Racoon. The photo should give fans a glimmer of hope, that though Thor may have lost his trademark golden locks in Ragnarok, Mjolnir is sure to return in Infinity War next year.
Recently in Marvel Comics, Mjolnir has changed many hands. After Thor Odinson was deemed unworthy, Jane Foster has taken up the mantle of the new Thor and serving alongside the All-New, All-Different Avengers. In the Free Comic Book Day issue of Secret Empire, it was shown that Captain America could now wield Mjolnir as it considered him worthy, even after the countless atrocities he’s caused.
We’ll learn the fate of both the comic book Mjolnir and the MCU counterpart as Secret Empire rages on this summer and Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters November 3rd.
