Universal has finally given a name to their new upcoming franchise of gods and monsters. While most have been calling it the Monsters Cinematic Universe, it seems the company had something else in mind – The Dark Universe.
Along with giving a name to the franchise, Universal has revealed the next release in the series along with some pretty big cast members.
After The Mummy hits theaters and launches the universe, Universal is set to release Bride of Frankenstein on February 14, 2019.
Johnny Depp will be playing the Invisible Man, once played by the great Claude Rains. Javier Bardem will be taking over for Frankenstein’s monster – a role originated with Boris Karloff. Tom Cruise will headline The Mummy as soldier and original character Nick Morton. Sofia Boutella will go up against Nick as the titular villainess (another role started by Karloff) The Mummy. Finally, Russell Crowe will play Dr. Henry Jekyll, the “Nick Fury” of the franchise. He leads the organization which researches and hunts these monsters.
