In the last twenty years, comic-book movies have seen Three Spider-Men, Three Hulks, Two Batmen, Two Supermen and Two Fantastic Fours, but the one thing that has stayed consistent during those times – Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Having vacated the role earlier this year in the critically acclaimed film, Logan, many fans have wondered whether we will see someone else don the claws in future installments.
Thanks to a recent comment from the film’s producer, we have an idea what we can expect.
During a recent Q&A for the film, Producer Hutch Parker was asked what the future will hold for the fan-favorite mutant. He explained:
“It’s a great question. Look, I think for all of us, at the moment, and for some of us it goes back to the very first time Hugh put on the costume. The idea of casting someone else as Wolverine is just not something I can think about. [Laughs] And I don’t know. There’s part of me that thinks that he’s done such a brilliant job and is so iconic in the part, that we should leave it alone.”
Whilst this is a thought no doubt shared by the many fans who view Jackman as the definitive Logan, Parker does go on to reveal that if the right story came along, we could be seeing the character slashing his way across the big screen once again. He went on to add:
“And yet, I know there’s always a possibility that either we find a story, or a situation comes along where you think, ‘OK, maybe we should consider that.’ But at the moment, we’re kind of leaving that alone.”
It goes without saying that Jackman will be hard to replace, given that he has portrayed the character in nine different films over a span of seventeen years to the extent that many fans would likely prefer to see the character retired for a few years than see someone else in the role.
With the acclaim that Dafne Keen received, it would be great to see her character, X-23, carry on her fathers legacy in the same way she did in the comics.
You can remind yourself just how awesome the characters swan-song was Logan when it hits home media May 23rd.
