The best super heroes require a few main components. A tragic back story, an iconic costume, an interesting set of abilities but arguably what’s most important to a hero is his villain. For Wolverine, that villain is undoubtedly Sabretooth. While the last film in Hugh Jackmans Wolverine saga Logan was critically well-received, Sabretooths absence was definitely felt.
With the home release of Logan fast approaching, a recently discovered deleted scene doesn’t exactly fill the void but it does at least acknowledge his existence.
“Bobby, one of the child mutants from Xander Rice’s facility, goes up to a sleeping Logan and asks whether Victor Creed, who he’s holding an action figure for, was real. Logan then recounts the events of Origins: Wolverine where the pair (in that movie brothers) were experimented on and used as weapons.”
Liev Schreiber said in an interview with Vanity Fair that Sabretooth himself was planned to be in the movie and he had been approached to reprise his role from X-Men Origins: Wolverine. While this would be a great service to fans of the X-Men films, it would add yet another wrinkle to the already maddeningly confusing continuity of the X-Men series as that films timeline was seemingly wiped from existence again in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
The deleted scene in Logan was likely deleted for not contributing directly to the plot as the movie is largely self-contained from the rest of X-Men universe though it’s still a fun Easter egg for fans.
Logan will be available on Digital HD from Amazon Video and iTunes on May 16th and the week after on DVD and blu-ray on May 23rd.
