The Marvel Cinematic Universe is never afraid of changing a character’s backstory or editing the general narrative of things from the original comics. But according to Kevin Feige, it looks like they’re taking into account a certain connection from the comics between The Collector and The Grandmaster.
If you pay attention, you may have noticed that the two characters each have a distinctly similar sense of style – white hair, markings on their chin, and an odd fashion sense to say the least.
It turns out that it’s no coincidence – the two are both claimed to be Elders as well as brothers in the original comics.
In an interview with CinemaBlend, Feige explained how their relationship from the comics will carry into the films. He also tries to explain one of the after credits sequences from Guardians Vol. 2:
“We had footage of just Goldblum dancing and thought it would be fun to put it in there. And as you know from the comics, he’s The Collector’s brother. Keep an eye out at a particular theme park attraction opening soon, you’ll get to see a little crossover… It’s just a fun thing. I don’t even know — you’re the first person to even mention that!”
The ride he’s referring to is Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout, a new ride opening in Disneyland California this year. And now we know The Collector and The Grandmaster will each be making an appearance.
