Illogical Captain!
Resistance is futile for Canadian Trekkie, Nick Troller as Manitoba Public Insurance revoke his Trek style licence plate.
Troller has had his licence plate, which reads ASIMIL8 for two years until the insurance company deemed it offensive.
Despite the plate having two quotes “WE ARE THE BORG” & “RESISTANCE IS FUTILE” from Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Borg collective adorning, the company have demanded he give it up.
Manitoba have stated that they have received a number of complaints in regards to Canada’s history of trying to assimilate indigenous peoples, but Troller disagrees and states that along with the quotes, it is clear that the plate is referencing the 51 year old Sci-fi show.
Manitoba have the right to recall any plate that is deemed offensive or uses swear words, or references to drugs and alcohol. As they have received some complaints they are taking this matter seriously.
Although Troller sympathizes with the complainants he says it has gone out of hand and he hasn’t had a chance to defend the plate.
“But that’s not the point,” Troller said. “We’ve become way too sensitive. You can’t say anything anymore to anybody.”
He has been given until May 1st to hand it over, and despite seeing the whole thing as a bit illogical he will have to comply or be assimilated.
