Since his creation almost 80 years ago, Superman has fought countless foes and even friends. Of the list that is certainly longer than my arm, Superman has come to blows with Lex Luthor, Batman, Muhammad Ali and most shockingly, the Ku Klux Klan. The story behind the making of how the radio drama in which the Man of Steel came to square off with the KKK has just been announced to be adapted to the big screen with a script from Katherine Lindberg.
Based on the young adult novel, “Superman versus the Ku Klux Klan: The True Story of How the Iconic Superhero Battled the Men of Hate” by Rick Bowers, the movie will focus on
a former KKK member who goes undercover in Atlanta in 1946 to work with the Anti-Defamation League, as well as become a producer on Superman radio show.
One of the film’s producers, Marco Vicini explained:
“The story behind Superman vs. the KKK really struck a chord with me. Right away I knew I wanted to re-live it by being a part of the nonviolent resistance against oppression. It is a great honor to be able to embark on such a relevant and meaningful project with such a devoted and highly experienced team of like-minded individuals.”
The film has no release date, cast or director as of yet but fans can look forward to seeing the strong legacy of Superman and not only the effect he has had on pop culture but as a force for American ideals.
