Back in 2014, Marvel killed off one it’s most iconic characters in the ‘Death of Wolverine’ story arc. Since then the universe has seen two characters take his place, X-23 who became the All-New, All-Different Wolverine and the elderly version of the character, Old Man Logan, who travelled to the 616 Universe during the Secret Wars event. However with the recent release of X-Men: Blue # 1, we now have yet another person to take the Wolverine name. Read on to find out who, but be warned it will feature spoilers for that issue.
The recent issue has revealed that the newest Wolverine is also a character from an alternate universe, in this case, he is the son of Wolverine from the now destroyed Ultimate Universe. The character is known as James Hudson Jr, and first appears in the new book hunting down a Wendigo in a snow covered forest. Its here that we see the character pop his claws complete with the trademark ‘Snikt’.
In the Ultimate Universe, the character first appeared in Ultimate Comics: X #1. In the comics Hudson was abandoned by his father Logan at an early age. With his name changed in order to keep him out of harms way, however it wasn’t long before his history came to light and he found himself working with his fathers former teammates. It’s currently unknown how he made his way across to the 616 Universe, but it was revealed by Mark Paniccia that the character is currently without his memories, something which could initially cause a few problems with the team.
This seems like a good compromise in order to bring a more traditional take on the character without taking away from Logan’s poignant death in the comics. It’s just good to see that Marvel are no longer shunning the mutant side of their comics. X-Men: Blue # 1 is available now.
