For years now, fans have been eager to see the Marvel Netflix Universe cross over into the film universe, since it’s allegedly all connected within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movies, however, have not referenced the shows and there doesn’t appear to be a timetable for that to happen.
Could Spider-Man: Homecoming be the film to do it? Well, according to a recent interview with the movie’s producer Eric Carroll, it won’t be:
“[He’s] not specifically referenced in this movie, no. I think that’s something we all think would be really fun, and it’s definitely a card I would love to see played, if not sooner rather than later. But as of now, it’s not referenced in this movie.”
The producer’s comments seem to be a little more hopeful than Anthony Mackie’s comments on the matter last month:
“Different universes, different worlds, different companies, different designs. Kevin Feige is very specific about how he wants the Marvel Universe to be seen in the film world. It wouldn’t work. It wouldn’t work at all.”
Hopefully it’ll happen eventually, but it doesn’t seem like it will any time soon. There’s also the problem of the shows having a much, much darker tone than the films, and Kevin Feige has already seemed reluctant to the idea of the MCU doing any R-Rated movies in the near future.
