While critics and fans were slightly mixed on the first entry in the franchise, fans are still excited to see a continuation of the Harry Potter universe with Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 2. Well it looks like that the film will have even more to get excited about.
After weighing through different options to play the character, it appears that Jude Law will being starring in Fantastic Beasts 2 as Young Albus Dumbledore. Director David Yates commented on this exciting news:
Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I have long admired, and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him. I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life.
For Harry Potter fans and non-fans alike, this is very exciting news. Along with the addition of Johnny Depp, this looks to be one of the most star-studded affairs in quite some time. What I am curious about is just how this film will work his character in and how big of a role he will have.
One quality that does concern me that the large cast for this film might be overkill. As I discussed in my review for Fantastic Beats and Where To Find Them, the film suffered from a script that crammed in far too many characters and subplots. With JK Rowling writing the screenplay for the sequel as well, I hope she learned that less can be more sometimes.
