Yesterday saw the release of the awesome first trailer for Justice League, and while it gave us an introduction to its members, one very important character was conspicuously absent. Now, in a recent interview, the film’s director Zack Snyder, has explained why we didn’t see the Man of Steel in the trailer, as well as touching upon why we’ll be seeing a more heroic Batman this time around. Read on to find out more.
Speaking to USA today, the Watchmen director gave an explanation on the Superman we can expect to see in the upcoming film. He revealed:
“It’s hard to have a Justice League without Superman. That’s how I feel about it. It was always a super-intriguing concept to me to have this opportunity to have him make that sacrifice but also have him be this, in a weird sort of way, the why of Justice League: What do you do now with him? What does the team think? What does the world need? All that comes into play. It’s fun for us but it’ll be interesting for audiences what we do with him.”
Now, it’s understandable why Supes wasn’t present in the trailer, given how the Kryptonian sacrificed himself in a fight against Doomsday during the climax of Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. Whilst those in the know, realize the character will be returning through the various behind the scenes photos, an average moviegoer would likely see the characters return as a surprise when it happens on screen.
The director also touched upon Batman, whose debut in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice was met with some criticism due to the more murderous tendencies the character had. It sounds as though this may have only been the first step in the characters road to becoming the hero we all love.
Snyder also revealed:
“He’s been a loner for certainly his crime-fighting career, maybe with the exception of Robin. When we meet him in BvS, he’s definitely at this low point of isolation. That was always our intention, that Justice League would be this continuation for Batman to evolve into a more complete hero.”
It certainly sounds as though we going to be seeing a more comic accurate team when the film hits theaters later this year. Let’s just hope they manage to bring in fellow League member, Green Lantern.
