I’m assuming by now that the majority of you would have seen Hugh Jackman’s final outing as Wolverine in Logan, or at the very least had it spoilt for you by an ASSHOLE named DAVE… sorry. For those of you are still unaware of how the film ended, you may want to skip this article as it is pretty spoiler heavy.
Those of you still with us will remember that finale of the film saw the fan favorite mutant finally breath his last breath after a confrontation with a feral clone of himself. Obviously, fans assumed that this would be the outcome of the film from the very moment that Hugh Jackman announced that this was to be his last time donning the claws.
However it sounds as though this may not have been the case if Jackman had his way.
In a recent interview with Yahoo, Jackman explained that he tried giving Logan a different fate. He explained:
“It was always floated that Logan would possibly die. I said, ‘Let’s be open, because it may be more powerful for him not to die… James was always certain of that ending, and he was right. Unlike a human character, what’s most poignant for someone who is thought to be indestructible is him dying while saying, ‘This is what it feels like.’’
Whilst seeing the character forced to continue living after losing everybody he has ever loved would have been as much of a heartbreak as the ending we got, it certainly wouldn’t have had the same emotional impact of seeing the character pass on in the arms of his daughter.
It sounds to me as though Jackman was possibly looking to leave the door open for a potential return to the character in the future.
You can check out Logan in theaters now, or you could just have Dave tell you the ending….seriously, fuck you, Dave!
