Whilst we’ll be seeing the King of Atlantis on the big screen this year in Justice League, we’ll be waiting a little longer to see the character helm his own film as it was announced earlier that the film won’t be with us till a little later.
Earlier today Warner Brothers announced that the James Wan helmed, Aquaman, will move from it’s initial release date of October 5th 2018 to December 21st. That’s right, Santa isn’t the only bearded individual to be arriving next Christmas although I can guarantee he probably won’t be as angry.
It wasn’t revealed just why the film was pushed back, but it may be due to the extensive effects which will be required to bring the characters world of Atlantis to life. Although it’s also not the first time that a DC film has been pushed back, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice was initially supposed to be released back in 2015 and The Flash is also expected to be pushed back after the films director dropped out.
Luckily for Warner Brothers, next year will be the first year since 2015 that Disney haven’t released a Star Wars film, with their Han Solo Spinoff set to drop in May. The biggest film around that release will be Sony’s animated Spider-Man film, centred on Miles Morales’ webslinger. Whilst Spidey may be the more familiar character, the fact that it’s an animated feature may hinder the film, plus it may be that audiences will be craving more of Jason Momoa’s Atlantean after his stint in Justice League.
It should also be noted that Aquaman’s original release date has now been filled with Sony’s Venom spinoff which was announced earlier today. Could it be that Warner Brothers got wind of this and changed the release date? Who knows, but you can find out more about Venom here.
Momoa can next be seen in Justice League when it hits theaters November 17th.
What do you think? Why do you think they moved the date? Are you excited for this film? Let us know below!
