At this point, just about every actor and his dog has had their name thrown into the ring for Deadpool’s time travelling cohort Cable in the upcoming sequel to last years hit film, Deadpool. Now another frontrunner for the role has emerged in the form of Stranger Things actor, David Harbour. Read on to find out more.
The latest casting rumor came courtesy of The Wrap who claim the information was obtained via a source close to the film’s production, something which Collider verified through sources of their own. Both sources claim that the actor has already screentested for the role. The Wrap reached out to Harbour’s representatives but they declined to comment.
Harbour became known to the wider audience for his role as Sheriff Hopper in the wildly successful Stranger Things, but before that he had roles in Quantum of Solace, The Green Hornet and Suicide Squad. The actor definitely has the charisma and size for Nathan Summers, but he may require hitting the gym to create the characters signature physique.
Harbour joins a long list of actors connected to the role including Pierce Brosnan, Kyle Chandler and Russel Crowe. Other fan favourites for the role include Avatar actor, Stephen Lang and Hellboy himself, Ron Perlman. Of course if Deadpool had his way, the role would go to Keira Knightly.
In the comics, Nathan Summers is the cybernetic mutant son of X-Man, Scott Summers, who travels back in time to stop Apocalypse’s rise to power. He was later teamed up with Deadpool’s for a series which ran for 50 issues between 2004 and 2008.
Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
As it stands, the Deadpool sequel currently doesn’t have a release date but its expected to hit the big screen sometime next year.
