I’m not gonna lie here. When Ridley Scott released his prequel/spin-off/whatever the hell he was trying to do to the Alien franchise, Prometheus, I was disappointed. I mean REALLY disappointed. What a lame and underwhelming film to bring us back into the world of this classic sci-fi horror franchise. However, if the new trailer for the upcoming Alien: Covenant is any indication, Scott might finally be bringing back the once proud franchise to its roots.
The trailer shows our group of Xenomorph entrees arriving on a new planet in hopes of making it a human colony. However, as they explore, they come across a mysterious ship that contains a bunch of strange eggs and I think you can figure out for yourself where this goes. Facehuggers, xenomorphs, and a very unsettling feeling through all of it.
The trailer does an amazing job at conveying the very same fear that gripped audiences in 1979 with the original film while also displaying some fast paced action similar to the 1986 sequel, Aliens. In many ways, it looks like a film that’ll attempt to capture a middle ground of both films and it’s getting fans hyped up. Hopefully, the film itself will deliver on that hype and not be another Prometheus.
Check it out below:
The film is set for release on May 19, 2017 and will star Katherine Waterston, Demian Bichir, Danny McBride, Alex England, Billy Crudup, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Carmen Ejogo, and Callie Hernandez. We will also be seeing Michael Fassbender reprising his role as David from the aforementioned Prometheus.
