Despite being the sequel that nobody is asking for, it sounds as though another Fan4stic film (Fan4stic 2?) may in fact be on the horizon according the original film’s writer and producer, Simon Kinberg. Read on to find out more.
Many fans had hoped that after the critical panning of the 2015 reboot, Fox would give up on attempting to bring Marvel’s first family to the big screen and the rights would revert to Disney. This would then allow the characters to join up with the rest of the MCU.
However, in a recent interview with Collider for the upcoming Logan, Kinberg was asked about plans for a sequel to which he explained:
“I have no idea. I think the truth is we would not make another Fantastic Four movie until it was ready to be made. One of the lessons we learned on that movie is that we want to make sure we get it 100% right, because we will not get another chance with the fans.”
Given the reception the film received, Fans will definitely be skeptical about returning for a second film. Many believe the reason the film failed was due to the film’s dark and gritty tone, which is vastly different from the way the characters are portrayed in the comics. Michael B. Jordan, who portrayed Johnny Storm – The Human Torch in the film, has since gone on to join the cast of Black Panther in the villainous role of Erik Killmonger.
Hopefully, the rights will eventually return home to Marvel, giving the studio free reign for the characters and bringing the classic villains Galactus and Dr Doom to the MCU.
Until the film is confirmed to be on the way, we probably shouldn’t expect it any time soon but if it does become a reality hopefully it treats the characters with more respect. Or we could get another butchered version of Doom. Who knows?
What do you think? Would you like to see a sequel? Would you be okay with a reboot at Fox? Let us know below!
