Another year of the Golden Raspberries has come to a close with this year’s winners finally being announced and to no one’s surprise, there is barely any variety in the winners whatsoever this year.
Almost every single award handed out was given to one of two films: Dinesh D’Souza’s political documentary, Hilary’s America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party, and Zack Snyder’s big superhero face-off, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. The only time a different film from the two won was in the case of Worst Supporting Actress. That award was given to Kristen Wiig for her performance in Zoolander No. 2 (personally, I think they should’ve added her abysmal performance in Ghostbusters to that, but I digress).
While there isn’t really much argument on Hilary’s America getting many dishonors this year (I’d moreso argue why a documentary is part of the line-up when in any other award show, they have their own category for good reason), there is some debate on if Batman v. Superman really deserved what it got. While reviews for the film were mostly negative with the extended cut gaining a more positive reaction, audience reviews still tend to be mixed all around. The only award it earned that even fans of the film will probably agree was well deserved was Jesse Eisenberg’s pitifully bad performance as Lex Luthor winning Worst Supporting Actor. Regardless, the film tied with Zoolander No. 2 for the most nominations and tied with Hilary’s America for most wins (8 nominations and 4 wins).
The other categories it got nominated for include Worst Picture, Worst Director for Zack Snyder, and Worst Actor for both Ben Affleck (yes, really) and Henry Cavill. The full list of winners are listed here:
