The days leading up to the release of Logan become fewer and fewer and many fans of the X-Men film franchise have a lot to be excited for. Not only are early reviews showing that this is actually a GOOD solo Wolverine film (about damn time), but it’ll be the first X-Men film outside of Deadpool to have an R Rating, the tone looks extremely dark for the series, trailers have already shown plenty of promise, the cast looks fantastic, and probably the most bittersweet reason of all: It’ll be Hugh Jackman’s last outing as Wolverine.
This will especially hit hard for many. Jackman has been playing the iconic character ever since this huge series of films began in the year 2000. He’s pretty much become a staple of the series and it’s hard to imagine the films going on without him. However, many fans have speculated if this is truly the case and have wondered if Jackman’s retirement from the role is absolutely certain. Speculation on this claim is understandable as there have been times where an actor says they’re done with a role only to come back some time later. A well-known instance of this happening was Mark Hamill’s retirement from the role of the Joker only to come back for The Killing Joke as well as Justice League Action.
However, in a recent interview with Cinescape, Hugh Jackman has insisted that the upcoming film will be, without any doubt, his last time playing the character. The actor stated near the end of the interview:
“It just feels like this is the right time [to leave the character].”
The interviewer proceeded to ask if this is indeed his last time as Logan, to which Jackman simply responded with:
“Yeah.”
When the interviewer asked if he was sure, Jackman responded:
“This is it.”
If the actor’s words hold true, we will all be seeing his absolute final on-screen venture as the Wolverine on March 3rd.
