In a little over a fortnight, Hugh Jackman will finally hang up the claws as the mutant hero, a Wolverine. But given that the character is clearly the most profitable character in the X-Men franchise, it seems inevitable that the character will one day grace our screens again. But how does Jackman feel about being replaced? Read on to find out.
In a recent interview with The New York Times about departing the role in the upcoming, Logan, Jackman seemed more than okay with someone taking over under one condition. He revealed the interviewer:
“The character will go on. Someone else will play it, for sure. [He insisted he was at peace with that] unless Daniel Day-Lewis plays him and wins the Oscar — then I might have a little problem.”
With the film currently garnering rave reviews (Currently sitting pretty with a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes) there’s always the chance that Jackman himself may actually get a nomination at next years awards. Heath Ledger did posthumously walk away with the Supporting Actor Academy Award for his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight, so it’s not unknown for Comic Book Films to go to the distance come Awards season.
Other than that, it’s hard to imagine anybody else taking on the role after Jackman’s seventeen year stint, although it’s even harder to imagine Fox not recasting somewhere down the line given how he’s the biggest draw for their films. Hopefully by the time the studio is ready, it will see the entire franchise rebooted into a much more coherent universe.
