Just in case you needed more proof (especially after the Baywatch trailer) that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be in literally any movie for a paycheck, we’ve just got word that he is going to produce – and appear (as himself, how’s that for acting chops) in – a biopic about………..Paige.
You read that right. Paige. The goth wannabe you haven’t seen on Raw in like a year, because she’s too busy banging Alberto Del Rio and doing drugs with him to show up to work. That Paige.
You see, Paige (real name: Saraya Jade Bevis) comes from a family of wrestlers, and made her ring debut at the young age of 13. Her mother (ring name: Sweet Saraya. Yup, she was named after her mom’s character) even wrestled when she was 7 months pregnant with baby Paige, which explains a lot.
To be fair, Johnson’s desire to be involved with the film didn’t spring out of nowhere. In fact, a documentary was already made about Paige and her family a few years ago. Johnson happened to see this doc, and was fascinated by their dynamic:
“Back in 2012, I was in my hotel room in London and stumbled across a documentary on a local UK channel. Not only was I intrigued by this loving and wild family, but I also felt it’s the kind of narrative that would make an amazing movie. The Knights’ journey is a universal one that all families are familiar with. I relate to Saraya and her wrestling family on such a personal level, and it means so much that I can help tell their story.”
The film, set to be titled “Fighting With My Family,” will follow the Bevis / Knight clan as they work their way up from nothing to the WWE. Paige’s father (who wrestled under the name Ricky Knight) and mother ran an independent promotion, World Association of Wrestling, and brought their kids up in the business. Her brothers work under the names Roy Bevis and Zak Zodiac.
Florence Pugh is reportedly set to star as Paige, with Jack Lowden as her brother Zak. Stephen Merchant, creator of the original British version of “The Office,” will direct.
Are you looking forward to this film, or is this a big fat WTF for you? Tell us in the comments below!
